Dogs have LESS Google results than cats?
Dogs are a man's best friend, right? Well, while that may be so, they actually yield about half as many Google results as cats. Looking up "dog" on Google, I found there to be about 317,000,000 results. I then looked up "cat" expecting to get somewhere around 100,000,000 results. Boy was I wrong. In fact, the word "cat" yields an astonishing 699,000,000 results on Google! Confused, I decided to try a different search engine. So, I ventured to Yahoo and entered "dog" to find that it had 1,310,000,000 results. Now that was more like it. So then I looked up "cat." I was in shock yet again. Cat yields an incredible 1,780,000,000 results on Yahoo. I was very intrigued by my findings and decided to see if dogs really are as popular as cats. At http://ask.yahoo.com/20070504.html I found that "about 88.3 million "owned cats" and around 74.8 million "owned dogs" in the United States" in 2007, and "44.8 million American households own[ed] a dog, while just 38.4 million own[ed] a cat." These results, though, don't have a conclusive answer as to which animal is more popular. Furthermore, they are only relevant for the United States while Google and Yahoo show results from all countried. The world may never know what "man's best friend" really is, but the internet certainly seems to prefer cats!

You present some intriguing information here, as well as good questions...how about expanding this Hub to shed some light on the questions you pose? I'd love to say to some of my dog-loving friends...Oh yeah, well, look at this Hub, my cat outranks your dog any day!
Enelle Lamb: I can tell by your profile picture that your mindset would be focused on cats : ). It's really a matter of opinion. Many people like cats, many people like dogs, many people don't care.
Sally's Trove: I have been thinking about your idea to expand my hub, and I have decided I will make another hub to "shed some light on the questions [I] pose." Thanks you very much for the advice and look for a hub on the topic soon.
My only conclusion to that fact is: Cats run in prides or groups so to say. So that being said, most people that I know, who owns a feline, have 2 or more. Just say you only have 1 feline, it wonders outside on a regular, using wooded or grass areas to urinate on, the urine produced in felines is made to attract others from its own species, for mating or pride call reasons. Dogs are a little bit diffirent so to speak. They are indeed desendants from wolves, and wolves do run in packs often, but they seperate from eachother often for hunting purposes and or mating. Have you ever heard the expression, "LONEWOLF"? That being said, canines do seperate out on their own, and maintain individually versus felines, desendants from Lions and Tigers from Asia, who depend on sticking together. Basically stating that if a certain animals who remains in a group like that, like felines, they obviously mate and multiply faster than canines do. Making them a larger population, and more known or owned then dogs.
dhyambrisak: Thanks for your contribution. I agree with you in the sense that you often see people who own more than one cat. On the other hand, I have seen quite a few people who own more than one dog (not as many as those with 2+ cats though). I gather you believe that more cats are owned than dogs because more cats are in existence. That is very interesting. Being a cat person myself, I would tend to agree with the results lol (no offense to dog people - they are amazing too 'the animals' not the people lol)and I love what you did with the picture. I have a similar one on a hub of mine, however, not nearly as cleverly depicted ;)
